"..."Stille Stücke für Klavier" - "... Silent Pieces for Piano" (2019)

These pieces were announced by Uta Walther as an encore after this Sunday lunchtime concert, but in truth they presented us with a wonderfully intimate world of sound, whose harmonic and melodic richness left the listeners breathlessly waiting for more. Blobs of sound and arpeggios were combined to form a fragile web. ... In complete contrast was the expressive opening of “Jahreszyklus” - “Annual Cycle” (2016) A musical year flies by in twelve stages, beginning with the jingling, icy sounds of “January” followed by the hesitant questioning impetuosity in "March", asking at first, "Yes?" and then replying, "Yes!" Walther also provided the vocal interjections written into the score, such as in "April", a month which never knows what it wants. ... Drops of sweat characterise "July", while "November" strides forth firmly and decisively. It was fascinating to experience how Uta Walther managed to capture the character of each of these miniatures depicting the annual cycle. ..."
